Land Development Planner
The Opportunity
Currently, CJDL has an immediate opening for an Intermediate Land Development Planner at our Tillsonburg office. This is a full-time position with a well-established firm.

CJDL has extensive experience in land development and in road reconstruction in an urban environment where the scope of work includes replacement of sanitary sewer, storm sewer and watermain.
The scope of this role includes:
The Land Development Planner will work on a large collection of diverse projects ranging from urban infill to master plans to various site-specific applications. Successful applicants will collaborate with our internal and sub-consultant teams as well as developers, builders, contractors, stakeholders, and residents to obtain various land use planning approvals throughout the areas that CJDL serves.
Responsibilities:
- Provide thoughtful leadership in land use strategy, planning, and policy in Ontario
- Develop business with an existing network and new clients requiring land use planning services
- Work collaboratively with other lines of business to introduce the full suite of services provided by CJDL Consulting Engineers
- Build and develop the Land Planning department
- Maintain professional relationships with planning authorities, regulatory agencies and industry associations
- Communicate with the public during community meetings
- Guide clients through the approval process including providing strategic advice and innovative solutions to land use planning issues
- Lead the submission of a variety of planning applications and site plan designs
- Prepare and submit planning justification reports, urban design briefs, draft Zoning By-laws, and draft Official Plan Amendments
- Other duties as assigned
What it takes:
- Bachelor’s degree with a specific focus in Planning and Land Development (Graduate degree would be an asset);
- Knowledge of the Ontario Planning System, including relevant legislation and the development approval process;
- Candidate membership with OPPI;
- Minimum 2 years of planning (or related) experience;
- Knowledge of the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT; formerly the Ontario Municipal Board [OMB]) would be an asset, but not required;
- Lead projects with strategic thinking and problem-solving skills to achieve successful results;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral, with staff, project team members and the public;
- Valid G-class driver’s license with daily access to a vehicle.

The Opportunity: Currently, CJDL has an immediate opening for a Civil Engineer at our Tillsonburg office. This is an opportunity for rewarding full-time employment with a reputable firm.
The scope of this role includes: Performing a variety of engineering design, contract administration and construction supervision duties together with a senior engineer. Projects will include infrastructure renewal, new subdivision servicing, site/lot development/grading plans, sewer and watermain design and storm water management. Projects under the Drainage Act may also be included in the scope of work.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects
- Interpret, review and approve survey and civil design work
- Liaise with clients and a variety of professionals including architects and subcontractors
- Ensure projects comply with legal requirements, especially health and safety
- Assess the sustainability and environmental impact of projects
- Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, and material stress factors to determine design specifications
- Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards
- Direct or participate in surveying to lay out installations and establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction
- Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility
- Other duties as assigned my management
What it takes:
- 5 plus years’ experience in the field
- University Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers of Ontario
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct and supervise employees and contractors
- Ability to manage projects from concept to completion
- Relevant experience working with municipalities, developers and contractors is preferred
- Ability to interpret, read and comprehend construction drawings and specifications
- A working knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Good interpersonal skills – ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships
- Driver’s License Class G required

Civil Engineering Technologist

Field survey and on-site construction inspection may be required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work co-operatively with senior staff to develop grading plans, site plans and subdivision/condo servicing plans & profiles
- On-site inspection of sewer, watermain & roadwork construction
- Act as a field survey crew assistant for topographic surveys and construction layout
- AutoCAD and Civil 3D Drafting – develop digital drawings from staff instructions and client directions
- Participate in report writing
- Support a variety of Civil Engineering tasks alongside senior Engineers and Project Managers
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology. A Certified Engineering Technologist designation is an asset
- Driver’s License Class G required with access to a vehicle
- Relevant experience working with municipalities, developers and contractors is preferred
- Ability to interpret, read and comprehend engineering and construction drawings and specifications
- Adept at producing drawings using AutoCAD is required; working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships
- Willingness to work overtime as required
- Candidates with a education and/or background in Civil Engineering Technology are ideally suited for this position – designation as EIT or P.Eng is not required.
